Relocating to Willcox

The air is unpolluted, the water is pure, the temperatures are moderate, the sunsets spectacular and retirees are welcome.

Willcox is located directly on Interstate 10, 80 miles east of Tucson, Arizona. Willcox, at an elevation of 4,167 feet, has mild year-around climate, relatively inexpensive land and housing, and pleasant rural lifestyles. Cochise County is unparalleled in historical, cultural, scenic and recreational features. From the rugged Dos Cabezas Peaks and the Chiricahua Mountains to Cochise Stronghold in the Dragoon Mountains (part of the Coronado National Forest), the dramatic changes in scenery and wildlife will both delight and amaze visitors. These awe-inspiring mountains and mystifying deserts were once the homeland of the Chiricahua Apache Indians, and it is from the great chief Cochise that the county gets its name.

Visitors are encouraged to "Travel the Magic Circle of Cochise", a journey through the area that will bring its rich history and unique and dramatic geology to life. The Cochise Visitors Center, operated by the Willcox Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, has information on the tour.

Community Facilities

Willcox offers a broad range of community facilities including a modern library, Olympic-size swimming pool, community center with meeting facilities, Historic Railroad Avenue, a nine-hole golf course, tennis courts, basketball courts, several parks with ramadas and playground equipment. There are athletic facilities that include lighted baseball/softball fields and a soccer field. The sports park has a rodeo arena, baseball/softball fields, concession stands and more. The Chiricahua Regional Museum, Marty Robbins Museum and Rex Allen Arizona Cowboy Museum are located in historic downtown Willcox.

Communications: In addition to communication resources from the rest of the state, Willcox has access to several newspapers from Tucson and Phoenix as well as the local Arizona Range News, local AM/FM radio stations (KHIL, Country and KWCX, Rock), four Tucson Television Stations via antenna, digital-fiber TV via Valley TeleCom Group, cable TV via Cox Cable Company and several companies offer satellite TV, digital fiber Internet via Valley TeleCom Group

Education: There is one public elementary school, one public middle school, one public high school within the Willcox Unified School District and three private schools in Willcox. School enrollment is approximately 1,300 students. Cochise Community College has an extension campushttps://www.cochise.edu/ (serving approximately 350 students) in Willcox, located in the same proximity as the high school. The college offers associate arts degrees and classes to allow transfer on to higher degrees. Willcox is also located close to Eastern Arizona College in Thatcher. The University of Arizona in Tucson, University of Arizona South in Sierra Vista and Northern Arizona University offer undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

Medical: Medical facilities include the Northern Cochise Health System (NCHS) offering full medical facilities, including emergency room, x-ray/CT scan/ultrasound, laboratories, respiratory therapy, as well as a completely staffed nursing home facility. There are two long term extended care facilities located in the Willcox Area. Four physicians, two dentists, three chiropractors, and an optometrist. There is a helicopter based medical air service that operates from NCHS (the local hospital), that services most of Southeastern Cochise and Eastern Graham Counties. The ambulance service has fully trained EMT's on call 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. There are also three veterinarians available for animal care in our area.

Governmental: The City of Willcox is governed by the City Council and the City Manager. The council is made up of six council members and a council appointed Mayor. The local Police Department is fully staffed with well trained officers. The county areas are served by the Cochise County Sheriff's Department. Other agencies include the Border Patrol, Department of Public Safety and the Immigration and Naturalization Service.

Financial: There are four financial institutions with local branch offices in Willcox. Further, Willcox is an enterprise zone offering business incentives through the Arizona Department of Commerce.

Airport: The residents of Willcox have access to the Cochise County Airport which has one lighted , paved 6,100-ft runway, UNICOM radio, fuel and maintenance.

Lodging and Meeting Facilities: There are 8 motels with 435 rooms and 3 additional motels currently under construction, five RV Parks, and numerous meeting facilities, the largest with a seating capacity of approximately 400.
