Willcox and the surrounding area is one of the most biological diverse places with a wide variety of things to explore and do. It sits at an elevation of almost 4,200 ft and is surrounded by mountains reaching above 10,000 ft. It is adjacent to the Willcox Playa, a giant dry lake that is almost 80 square miles, and can be seen from space. At one time Willcox was the largest beef-producing town in America and was known as the "Cattle Capital of the West."

A strong agricultural and ranching economy has helped Willcox maintain its rural lifestyle. The Willcox climate and topography make it perfect for a diversity of farming. Willcox is the 2nd largest producer of pistachios in the world and grows more than 3/4 of Arizona wine grapes. Willcox accounts for 95.6% of all chile seeds in America. Yes, we provide seeds to Hatch, NM. The mild climate has also made Willcox a perfect place to raise cattle. Coronado Farms raises more than 55,000 cattle.

Willcox is part of Cochise County's Land of Legends. Originally home to the great Apache Leaders, Cochise and Geronimo, there are many legends to explore. Many of the Old West's legendary characters made it to Willcox. There is one of the Earp Brothers buried in Willcox and Burt Alvord's gangmember, Bill Downing who was shot by Arizona Ranger Billy Speed was immortalized by Marty Robbins in the song "Big Iron".

The Willcox area has a variety of wildlife species that either reside in the area or spend part of the year here. Common mammals include mule and whitetail deer, javalina, black bear, and mountain lion. A major population of Sandhill Cranes spends the winter near Willcox. There are also a wide variety of reptiles and amphibians. It is the perfect place to encounter nature.
